Sustainability
Our Fresh Veggie Menu is an excellent alternative or addition to conventional meat-based dog nutrition. At Fidelis, we aim for a positive future for us and our children, with a clean environment, sustainable production, and as little climate change as possible. Especially because we know that meat production involves high land use, leading to the destruction of natural habitats, especially for the cultivation of animal feed, high water requirements, water pollution, and high emissions of greenhouse gases (CO2), we want to make our positive contribution. That's why we developed our Fresh Veggie Menu.
However, it's not enough for us to produce vegetarian animal feed from starch, ground legumes, and other flours, as these highly processed vegan and vegetarian ingredients contain only a small number of nutrients. It was important to us to process fresh vegetables and fresh fruits with a high nutrient density. The production is indeed much more complex and therefore considerably more expensive, but we are confident that the effort was worth it.
Your dog will thank you for a healthy and varied diet, among other things, with a strengthened immune system, a shiny coat, fewer digestive problems, a better sense of well-being, and increased vitality.
Sweet Potatoes
According to the American non-profit organization Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), sweet potatoes are considered the healthiest vegetable. The greatest advantages of sweet potatoes are their high content of secondary plant substances, which protect against free radicals. They are a source of minerals and vitamins and contain many high-quality fibers.
Carrots
In addition to energy, fiber, and low calories, carrots are healthy because they are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. In particular, vitamin A and biotin are worth mentioning. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body.
Peas
Peas contain many vitamins. In addition to beta-carotene, peas offer a particularly high amount of B vitamins, and vitamin C is also present. Peas also excel in minerals: magnesium, iron, calcium, and zinc make them a particularly healthy vegetable side dish.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin is rich in antioxidants that counteract the formation of free radicals. The potassium it contains helps regulate fluid balance, while vitamin B6 makes an important contribution to blood formation and the nervous system. Finally, magnesium in pumpkin regulates electrolyte and water balance in the body and ensures bone stability.
Broccoli
Broccoli contains some vitamins in particularly high concentration: vitamin C, vitamin K, and beta-carotene. Also, in terms of minerals, broccoli is significantly better equipped than many other vegetables. For example, broccoli provides significant amounts of calcium, iron, and copper.
Spinach
Spinach is a low-calorie vegetable that is rich in B-group vitamins and vitamin C. It also has a high beta-carotene content. The green leafy vegetable also provides the body with minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron.
Pea Protein
Pea protein contains notably high amounts of arginine and lysine, as well as the amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine. As part of a balanced diet, the protein can support both muscle building and muscle maintenance.
Apples
Apples are suitable for a healthy diet because they contain many vitamins, minerals, and trace elements such as potassium, calcium, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, folic acid, pectins, and polyphenols.
Rapeseed Oil
Rapeseed oil has the highest proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids and is excellent as a supplement in dog food. Additionally, rapeseed oil promotes the healing process in case of inflammation.
Eggs
Eggs contain a significant amount of proteins, essential amino acids, and high-quality fats. These can contribute, among other things, to a shiny and smooth coat, which is often mentioned. Eggs are also beneficial for metabolism and muscle formation.
Cottage Cheese
Cottage cheese provides high-quality animal protein in large quantities. However, cottage cheese also contains lactose, which not all dogs tolerate.
Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed oil is a cold-pressed plant oil obtained from flax seeds, the mature seeds of oil flax (Linum usitatissimum). Linseed oil has a high vitamin E content as well as an almost perfect ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. The alpha-linolenic acid it contains helps with blood formation and can dilate blood vessels. At the same time, it regulates blood pressure and cholesterol.
Brewer's Yeast
Brewer's yeast contains a lot of vitamins and minerals and is also a good source of protein. It also stimulates metabolism and helps maintain a constant blood sugar level.
Rose Hip Powder
In addition to vitamin C, rose hips contain numerous other ingredients that have a positive effect on health. These include: fruit acids, essential oils, pectins, tannins, silicic acid, the antioxidants lycopene and flavonoids, the vitamins provitamin A, vitamins B1 and B2, as well as vitamin E, the minerals zinc, copper, sodium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, and magnesium.
Algae Chalk
Algae chalk consists of deposits from red algae. It mainly contains calcium carbonate, as well as magnesium carbonate and trace elements (boron, iodine, silicic acid), thus preventing a deficiency of minerals and trace elements. The high calcium content supports the stability of bones and teeth and balances the excess phosphorus from meat feeding, which can otherwise lead to kidney problems.
Seaweed Meal
Seaweed meal contains many minerals such as zinc and carotenoids that support skin metabolism, pigmentation of fur, nose mirror, and paw pads. The amino acid lysine it contains optimizes feed utilization; cellulose and mannitol support digestion.
What exactly is gently cooked food? Quite simply: Better food for your dog! Our cooked menus are all made from high-quality, fresh ingredients from food production: Pure muscle meat and healthy offal, fresh vegetables and fruits, selected oils and herbs, as well as a digestible healthy carbohydrate source (rice or sweet potato) together, in a carefully balanced ratio, form complete menus for a species-appropriate, varied, and digestible feeding of your dog.
We consistently avoid artificial additives, preservatives, flavor enhancers, and attractants. While the fresh meat and offal are gently cooked at 90°C, the vegetables and fruits are only blanched, preserving heat-sensitive natural minerals and vitamins.
Only in the final step are high-quality oils and natural ingredients like rosehip powder, seaweed meal, brewer's yeast, and algae calcium added to the menu.
Fidelis Fresh Menus are absolutely unique and simply put: "Better Food" for your dog!
We cook for your dog, just like you would at home.
Disadvantages of Other Types of Food
What are the disadvantages of other types of dog food compared to the cooked Fresh Menus from Fidelis?
Extruded / cold-pressed dry food:
- Is almost always made from a significant proportion of cereals, animal meals, and hardened fats
- Fresh ingredients like meat, offal, and vegetables are used only to a very small extent or not at all
- The extrusion or cold pressing manufacturing process heats the product to very high temperatures, destroying almost all remaining nutrients and minerals
- The vitamins and minerals contained in the food are added to the food in artificial form
- Dry food often contains preservatives and attractants
Wet food / canned food:
- Most manufacturers use low-quality meat and slaughterhouse by-products, plant by-products, and artificial additives for can production
- Fresh ingredients like meat, offal, and vegetables are used only to a very small extent or not at all
- During the sterilization process of the cans in the so-called autoclaves, the food is heated to a temperature of 110 – 140°C, losing a large part of the nutrients and minerals present in the product
- The vitamins and minerals contained in the food are added to the food in artificial form
- Canned food often contains preservatives and attractants
B.A.R.F. (Raw Food)
- The fundamentally good approach to feed your dog with species-appropriate raw food consisting of meat, offal, as well as vegetables and fruits often encounters a major problem in practice: raw, untreated B.A.R.F. products are often contaminated with a high number of germs and bacteria. This not only frequently leads to intolerance or severe digestibility issues in the dog but also poses serious health risks for the owner, as they come into contact with the food during thawing and serving. Enterobacteria and E. coli bacteria can cause severe health problems in both dogs and humans.
- Likewise, the protein content in B.A.R.F. menus is often too high, which can lead to health problems in many dogs.
Feeding Recommendation
Puppy up to 8 months: approx. 4%
Dog up to 15 kg: approx. 2 - 3%
Dog over 15 kg: approx. 2 - 2.5%
The percentage refers to your dog's body weight. For example, a dog weighing 20 kg and a recommended daily ration of 2% needs 400g of food per day.
The following values are guideline amounts for the amount of food for normally active, unneutered healthy dogs. However, individual requirements can deviate up to 50% from the calculated values due to age, breed, or activity. These are just starting points for estimating the daily amount of food.
Transitioning to FIDELIS
Fidelis recommends an immediate transition to our food. Skip one meal (preferably in the evening) and start with our food at the next meal. Feed a single variety for the first 14 days so that your dog's stomach can get used to the food. After two weeks, we recommend feeding different flavors alternately.
Delivery & Storage
Our Fresh Menus are delivered to you frozen and are frozen for approximately 6 months.
Cooled in the refrigerator, our menus are easily stored for about 5-7 days.
We recommend using opened menus within 2-3 days.
